Alibaba reports an 80% increase year-on-year in international registered users in 2008
Of the total number of users, that of the registered users on the Chinese marketplace reached 30.2 million. The company added more than one million new members in each of the last quarters of 2008, posting the highest quarterly climbs since Alibaba's foundation. Thus, at the end of December 2008, the local and international markets had 38.1 million registered users (30.2 million registered users and 7.9 million registered users respectively), up 38 percent year-on-year. The number of storefronts on Alibaba's both marketplaces increased to 4.6 million, up 56 percent compared to 2007, with 970,000 storefronts on the international marketplace and 3.6 million storefronts on the Chinese marketplace.
For the entire year, Alibaba registered EUR 336 million (CNY 3 billion) in total revenue, up 39 percent on a year-over-year basis, while the number of paying members has jumped by 41 percent to 432,031.
